CANTON, MASS. – On March 3, over 170 members and friends of Hadassah gathered at the Blue Hill Country Club, in Canton, to honor Karen Asher and other “Unsung Heroes” of the Southern New England Region of Hadassah.

Asher, of West Kingston, is a past president of Hadassah’s South County chapter and the chairwoman of Hadassah Rhode Island’s “Cause for Applause” theater event.

In her remarks, Asher said, “I guess it’s fair to say that I have given a lot to Hadassah over the years, but in truth Hadassah has also given a lot to me.”

The women of Hadassah, she said, put their “best into each task and leave each situation better than [they] found it.  That is the very definition of a Hadassah woman.”

Certificates were presented by national Hadassah President Ellen Hershkin, who, in addition to praising the honorees, spoke of Hadassah’s newest campaign, 360 Degrees of Healing.

“Despite our century of progress, we must face the realities of today’s challenges.  We must help Hadassah to fund our projects, to remember that it is our responsibility to attain the goals. … Our Unsung Heroes enable us to accomplish what we do.”

Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, has been committed to women’s health, Israel, and Jewish values and continuity for over 100 years.
